To promote whole-person learning, encourage critical thinking and cultivate the love of music in all students.
Our school Music Curriculum covers the fundamental part of Education Bureau Curriculum. Additionally, we have implemented the “One Student One Western Orchestral Instrument” system. We intend to foster the skills of singing, reading, playing, writing and thinking in music as well as building positive characters.
We incorporate the Kodaly, Orff and Dolcroze Methodologies in our music classrooms. Students sing, play, discover, identify and compose music through the singing games. Music individual as well as group activities are conducted to allow spiral learning of the concepts and theory of music.
Each student learns a western orchestral instrument with a private instructor in a conservatory style of music lesson. This not only develops their instrumental skills by engaging in regular lessons and practice, it also strengthens abstract reasoning skills through long-term learning. Besides, students are also encouraged to join the instrumental classes, choirs, orchestra and different instrumental ensembles. Through the experiences of performances and competitions, students’ confidence as well as their emotional quotient can be enhanced.
At SSCPS, we encourage students to think critically and to play an active role in their learning through the enjoyment of music. The “Core Practice” research-based pedagogy is used to elicit thinking through discussion in music appreciation projects.
Both summative and formative assessment happen throughout the year which focus on the outcome of the instrumental performance as well as the development and the process in singing performance and discussion.
The Boarding Programme at St Stephen’s Preparatory School (SSCPS) is a mandatory staple programme offered to all Grade 6 students. The programme provides a 10-months-long away from home experience where our students will learn physical, mental and emotional independence. Many will build lifelong friendships with their peers, and the programme represents a golden opportunity for our pupils to polish and enhance their social skills through peer interaction.
In the 10-month programme, pupils will not only be tasked to take care of themselves through the daily routine, but also learn to collaborate and build teamwork with others in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, community services and adventure-based trainings.
We aim to develop our students in the following key areas: Independence and Responsibility, Confidence, Social Skills including Conflict Resolution skills and Strong Work Ethic.
The SSCPS Boarding Programme is mainly divided into four areas of training:
It is our goal to help our students grow up as individuals with the ability to think and live independently, with positive and motivated personalities, and be prepared to pursue their further studies abroad or in Hong Kong.
The School is dedicated to nurture and develop positive character traits in the students.
The theme of our Ethics Education Programme this year is We are One in the Bond of Love. Co-curricular activities under this theme will be arranged to instil a series of positive characteristics in our students.
